She came in like a prairie morning
Like heaven owed her a favor
She walked in the room
You saw her like a new beginning
But just hold on cowboy
Think what you wanna do
She sat down and checked her phone
And the race was on to find
The best first thing to say
But most anyone could tell you
Better luck next time friend
Cause she don’t swing your way
CHORUS:
I would know, cause I
Had my heart broke a time or two
She’s not looking for you
She’s been riding underneath a big sky
On a mountain highway
Going-to-the-Sun
She’s still trying to forget
The last time it all ended in a mess
And she had to cut and run
CHORUS
You might know, if you
Had your heart broke a time or two
She’s not looking for you
Maybe there’s no harm in asking
But when you get your answer
Gotta learn to let her be
Cause lemme tell you it’s a long way
From Browning to Great Falls
And someone she can’t wait to see

I grew up where the grass grows tall in the summertime
Speedway over the hill
We used to sing a song about a silent star in a purple sky
And hear that lonesome whip-poor-will
I grew up where the waves come crashing on the breakwall
Underneath those old smoke stacks
And the west wind, roarin’ cross the water towards the end of fall
I’d do my best to hold it back
I grew up where the ice melts slow in the shadows
Taps in the maple trees
You ask me just what happened, hell if I know
I was never gonna stay, and you were never gonna leave
I grew up where the grass grows tall in the summertime
A child of the Great Lakes
But the birds stop singing when the leaves begin to die
And you can hear my heart break

The day never felt longer
And time never passed so slow
You left for the leaving, cause you
Don’t know how to say that you just don’t know
I can hear the gulls crying in the harbor
Sun and salt on skin
And am I wrong for the asking
Must it be as it’s always been
CHORUS
Oh, I know you’ve been needing
To be any elsewhere
Before you start running
Wait for me, I’ll meet you there
Peter walked on the water
Moses walked on dry land
And if the good Lord is willing
We’ll walk all the way to the promise land
CHORUS
It’s true I love you dearly
And it’s true what they say, that we are
Slaves of the hourglass, bound by the horizon
And the sun sets near on every day
CHORUS
When the world around you
Is just too much to bear
And you can’t keep running
Wait for me, I’ll meet you there

Way out on Montauk, standing on the shore
I think I’ve been here before
Way out on Montauk, don’t know what I hoped to find
Oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine
You took me to the Charles, out on that river frozen through
How could I know what we would do
Were you ever, were you ever really mine
Oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine
It’s cold out on Montauk, you know I wrote it all down
Walls are falling all around
I’m losing everything, I’m losing my mind
Oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine
I met you out on Montauk, just a friend of a friend
Would we do it all again
Way out on Montauk, at the end of the line
Could it be different this time
Oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine

Racing the Sun
04:44

We had about two weeks
To get as far as we could from the east
I was looking to find of a different kind of state of mind
You had a car and a tank of gas
The west had not a day of my past
Let’s try and see if maybe we could make it to the sea
CHORUS
We were racing the sun
But day after day the sun always won
Even if we kept on driving long after the day was done
We were racing, we were racing the sun
We slept in parking lots
Drove a little fast but we never got caught
This bucket of rust we had to trust would keep us off the bus
Saw a sign and it read
Two hundred more miles, San Francisco straight ahead
By the end of the day we made our way over to the bay
CHORUS
We had about two weeks
To get as far as we could from the east
I was looking to find just a little different kind of state of mind
Car broke down on Route 101
I thought you would be panicking but you were having fun
If we’d had our way on the day we probably would have stayed
CHORUS
